Role: Research Associate – Strain Build (A-Life)

About the Role
Join Google’s A-Life team to help drive the biomanufacturing revolution. As a Research Associate – Strain Build, you will design, engineer, and validate microbial strains, working on cutting-edge synthetic biology projects.
What You’ll Do
- Design construct maps and strain build strategies
- Perform cloning, DNA prep, and microbial transformations
- Execute CRISPR, Gibson Assembly, and Golden Gate workflows
- Troubleshoot experimental challenges in strain pipelines
- Maintain accurate records using Benchling/LIMS
- Improve SOPs for efficiency and reproducibility
What You Bring
- BS/MS in Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Microbiology, or related
- 3+ years in industrial strain engineering / synthetic biology
- Strong experience with:
- Microbial systems (E. coli, yeast)
- Molecular cloning & genomic integration
- High attention to detail in lab execution
Nice to Have
- Experience with lab automation tools (Tecan, Agilent)
- Benchling or LIMS expertise
- Exposure to diverse microbial systems
- Familiarity with Geneious
