Adjunct Faculty -Microbiology - Tues, Wed, Thurs at 24 hours total (Immediately)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Adjunct Faculty member to teach Microbiology at our institution. The successful candidate will deliver engaging lectures, facilitate laboratory sessions, and contribute to curriculum development in a dynamic higher education environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to share expertise in microbiology and related scientific disciplines, including molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and cell biology, with undergraduate students. Candidates should possess strong classroom experience and a passion for fostering student learning in both theoretical and practical aspects of microbiology.
Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures and facilitate discussions on microbiology topics such as virology, molecular biology, genetics, histology, and microscopy.
- Develop and update course curriculum utilizing learning management systems such as Blackboard and LMS platforms.
- Prepare and supervise laboratory experiments involving dissection, spectroscopy, microscopy, and other scientific techniques.
- Incorporate research methodologies into coursework, emphasizing data collection, analysis, and scientific research principles.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and lab reports; provide constructive feedback to support student growth.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and integration of interdisciplinary topics like bioinformatics, epidemiology, biostatistics, organic chemistry, and environmental science.
- Utilize technology tools such as MATLAB, Python, C++, Java, Linux, and machine learning applications to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Engage in professional development activities related to higher education teaching strategies and learning technology.
Experience
- Prior university-level teaching experience in microbiology or related biological sciences is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated laboratory experience with techniques including microscopy, spectroscopy, dissection, histology, and cellular biology methods.
- Proven research background in fields such as virology, epidemiology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, ecological restoration or horticulture is advantageous.
- Familiarity with LMS platforms like Blackboard or similar learning technology tools for course management.
- Experience working with diverse student populations in adult education or higher education settings is desirable.
- Knowledge of computer networking, data collection methods, AI applications in science education, and programming languages such as Python or C++ is a plus.
