Job Summary
In this role as a Computational Biology Expert supporting AI Training and evaluation initiatives, you will apply your expertise in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, and biological data analysis to help improve next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world scientific knowledge and advanced biological problem-solving.
This is an hourly-paid contract opportunity, not a traditional laboratory, research, or biotech position. Contributors will work on project-based AI training and evaluation tasks while collaborating remotely with distributed teams in a flexible work environment. No prior experience in AI is required — your biology expertise is what matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Leverage your computational biology expertise to support AI training, benchmarking, and evaluation initiatives in real-world biological applications.
- Evaluate, review, and provide feedback on AI-generated outputs across genomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and related domains.
- Contribute to AI training and evaluation projects through scientific reasoning tasks, technical assessments, annotation workflows, and benchmarking activities.
- Assess the accuracy, relevance, and scientific validity of biological analyses, computational workflows, and model outputs.
- Apply advanced analytical reasoning to review biological pipelines and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve AI model performance using domain-specific biological knowledge.
- Document findings, scientific rationale, and recommendations clearly and accurately.
- Stay current with emerging developments in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, and AI applications in life sciences.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- PhD in Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Systems Biology, or a closely related field, or equivalent industry/research experience demonstrating advanced expertise.
- Proven experience conducting data-driven biological research and computational analysis.
- Proficiency with scripting and scientific computing tools such as Python, R, Bash, or similar technologies.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and workflows such as BWA, GATK, STAR, Salmon, Seurat, Scanpy, or comparable platforms.
- Deep understanding of genomics, transcriptomics, structural biology, systems biology, computational biology, or related disciplines.
- Strong scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex biological concepts clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying AI, machine learning, large language models (LLMs), or data-driven methodologies within biological research or biotechnology environments.
- Hands-on experience with NGS pipelines, CRISPR workflows, AlphaFold, PyMOL, single-cell analysis, or related computational biology technologies.
- Published research, patents, conference presentations, or significant contributions to open-source bioinformatics or computational biology projects.
- Experience reviewing scientific content, developing technical assessments, or contributing to AI model evaluation projects.
- Familiarity with AI training-related workflows, scientific benchmarking methodologies, and biological data annotation is a plus.
