PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow good laboratory practices, written standard operating procedures for laboratory equipment, and established laboratory safety rules at all times.
- Ability to perform established standard operating procedures for all analytical and microbiological test methods.
- Perform scheduled monitoring/preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment and document findings and take corrective action as required.
- Perform scheduled calibration audits on laboratory equipment and QC equipment.
- Notify Quality Assurance Laboratory Supervision of safety or procedural accidents.
- Learn and perform USDA Salmonella testing protocol and become knowledgeable of USDA regulations for laboratory.
- Accurately document all data and maintain records.
- At tend educational training/seminars as requested by Supervisor.
- Report out of specification results to supervisor.
- File documentation to ensure records are up to date and readily available.
- Assist Quality Assurance Laboratory Supervision with tasks upon request.
- Work under pressure and time restraints to support workload and production requirements. This will include availability to work different work hours to ensure timely release of egg products.
- Availability on weekends and holidays to cover work load as scheduled.
- Will maintain confidentiality of testing procedures and results.
- Report any food safety and quality issues/problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
- Other tasks as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- The ability to perform all required functional work accurately and on a timely basis.
- Proficiency test records will also be maintained and reviewed by Laboratory Supervision.
- The ability to accept new responsibilities.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Minimum previous work experience in public health, medical, food or other laboratory. Preferred 2 - 4-year degree with background in biology, chemistry, microbiology, food technology.
- Ability to work in metric and English measurement.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work without constant direct supervision
- Basic computer knowledge with Word, Excel and Outlook programs.
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to a work schedule that may require weekend, holiday or variable working hours dependent on production requirements for timely release of egg products.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
- Able to stand or sit for several hours at a time depending on workload
- Capable of working up to 12 hours per day.
Pay: $25.00 - $29.98 per hour
