POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Radiation Therapist works full-time, five days a week, ensuring completion of all tasks before leaving the clinic.
The Lead Radiation Therapist is responsible for enhancing treatment efficiency, clinical workflow, maintaining accuracy, and promoting workplace civility. The Lead Radiation Therapist oversees community outreach to inform potential referring physicians about the services offered by the New Mexico Cancer Center. The Lead also conducts simulation and radiation therapy consistently as per prescribed treatment plans, ensuring patient safety by observing and documenting reactions, updating charts, and addressing patient questions. Additionally, the Lead Radiation Therapist maintains equipment, adheres to safety regulations regarding radiation exposure, and upholds the company's core values to achieve its mission and vision.

- Administers prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards
- Positions patients for treatment with accuracy according to CT simulation and planning orders
- Enters data into computer using ARIA, create documents, create, and manage tasks. Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others
- Maintains and updates EMR
- Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient charts, including consents, pathology, special alerts, and treatment plans
- Performs daily Quality Assurance procedures on Linear Accelerator and HDR unit to ensure proper operation of radiation therapy equipment
- Observes and reassures patients during treatment and reports unusual reactions to physicians
- Assess patient’s condition daily including skin irritation, nausea, hair loss and general health condition
- Educates, prepares, and reassures patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical assistance, and reinforcing physicians' advice regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care
- Verifies daily treatment dosages delivered during each session
- Prepares and constructs treatment devices for positioning and immobilization during CT plan simulations to be used for daily treatment
- Acts as liaison with physicists, radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and RO nurses
- Provides assistance and communication to other department personnel as needed for standard of patient care
- Conducts treatment sessions, in accordance with the long-term treatment plan as prescribed by the radiation oncologist
- Operates CT scanner for the purpose of treatment planning
- Follows established policies, procedures, quality improvement objectives, environmental and radiation safety, and infection control standards
- Cover Albuquerque clinic when needed

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education and Experience:
- Prior management or leadership experience (preferred)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Radiation Therapy, or an Associates of Science in Radiologic Technology and a certificate in Radiation Therapy
- Two plus years related experience as a Radiation Therapist- Preferred
- Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment
- Knowledge of the human anatomy and proper positioning of the patient to provide treatment as prescribed.
- Working knowledge of procedures employed with Radiation Hazards, Material Safety Data Sheets, and their application
- Ability to administer CPR in a medical emergency
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, physicians, radiation therapists, and other employees
Computer Skills:
Intermediate to advanced computer skills
Certificates & Licenses:
- Current licensure as required by state or national authority and/or certification or board eligible in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
- Maintain ARRT certification in radiation therapy with a minimum of 24 documented hours of CEU’s over a 2-year period
- CPR Certified
