General Description:
The Connecticut Proton Therapy Center (CPTC) is excited to invite applications for the position of Proton Dosimetrist at our state-of-the-art facility in Wallingford, CT. As a Proton Dosimetrist, you will play a pivotal role in our multidisciplinary care team, directly impacting patient outcomes by developing precise and individualized radiation treatment plans for proton therapy.
In this role, you will be involved in all phases of the treatment planning process – including simulation, immobilization, proton (and photon, as needed for insurance comparative plans) plan design, dose calculation, and plan documentation. Proton Dosimetrists at CPTC are expected to demonstrate a deep understanding of the physical principles unique to proton therapy, such as range uncertainty, robustness analysis, and density variation assessment. Your responsibilities will include designing optimal beam arrangements, anticipating and mitigating treatment planning challenges, and performing rigorous plan quality checks. Regular communication with Proton Radiation Therapists, Medical Physicists, and Physicians is essential for safe and efficient patient care.
Additionally, you will participate in clinical innovation, protocol development, and comparative planning for insurance authorization. As a valued member of our team, you may also mentor new dosimetrists and trainees, contributing to the ongoing advancement of our department.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work directly with Physicians in simulation, treatment planning, and radiation dose recording, including all electronic documentation, charting, and coding in RayStation and in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR).
- Develop and optimize computerized treatment plans to deliver dose to defined target volumes as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist.
- Calculate, verify, and document doses using Treatment Planning Software (TPS) and Oncology Information System (OIS).
- Assist with the patient setup device selection, planning, fabrication, and quality review as needed for beam modification or immobilization.
- Implement and assist in the maintenance of the quality system for medical dosimetry and record keeping.
- Act as teacher/instructor, as necessary, during orientation phases of new dosimetry hires or Yale physics residency program.
- Adhere to treatment protocol standards established by the Connecticut Proton Therapy Center for specific disease sites/stages/fields and ensure that documentation is thorough and captured electronically.
- Participate in the development and/or implementation of new techniques as assigned by the Director of Medical Physics and Dosimetry.
- Demonstrate proper radiation safety techniques at all times.
- Assist with insurance authorization through comparative planning, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of a Medical Dosimetry school or a certified radiation therapist with 2 or more years of on-the-job training as a Medical Dosimetrist (Required)
- Proton Therapy experience preferred
- RayStation TPS experience preferred
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge/experience in clinical information and imaging systems
- Strong technical problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Proven experience in medical care settings, specifically in radiation oncology or related fields
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical care practices
- Excellent communication, including teaching and coaching skills
Education/Degree/Qualifications:
- Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB)
- Candidate has maintained education requirements to be a CMD (Certified Medical Dosimetrist) in good standing
- Bachelor’s degree required
