Role Description: This senior-level role provides advanced molecular biology and microbiology expertise while ensuring the safety of seafood supply. The Research Analyst IV participates in research and development activities, conducting laboratory analyses for molecular detection and characterization of pathogens in seafood, with an emphasis on Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and bioinformatics. The position requires experience in method development, optimization, and validation, as well as data compilation and analysis using established mathematical and scientific techniques. The analyst will write technical reports detailing laboratory procedures, outcomes, and observations, contribute to manuscripts for publication, and collaborate closely with senior scientists while adhering to established protocols, documentation standards, and project timelines.
Responsibilities:
· Conduct laboratory analyses for molecular detection and/or characterization of microorganisms from seafood samples using Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatics tools.
· Perform method development, optimization, and validation for the identification of seafood pathogens.
· Execute nucleic acid extractions (RNA/DNA) from seafood samples to prepare templates for molecular analyses.
· Isolate and identify microorganisms from seafood samples using aseptic techniques and standard microbiological procedures.
· Perform data analysis and draft technical project reports documenting results, progress, procedures, and findings.
· Prepare manuscripts and scientific reports for the publication of research results and validated methods.
· Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all laboratory activities in compliance with FDA standards.
· Participate in environmental sample collection to support research and outbreak investigations.
Basic Required Skills
· Advanced knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics methods.
· Proficiency in Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing (e.g., Illumina MiSeq), and data analysis tools.
· Hands-on experience performing nucleic acid extractions and molecular-based assays (e.g., real-time PCR).
· Ability to compile and analyze data using mathematical and scientific approaches.
· Strong ability to prepare technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations.
· Experience in method development and validation for molecular pathogen detection.
· Proficiency with laboratory documentation practices and quality control procedures. Strong knowledge of PECO-based inclusion/exclusion criteria and risk-of-bias evaluation.

Job Type: Contract
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
